Either you want to get to the capital for an international concert, or get the latest tickets for a festival in another corner of the country, it is obvious that 2015 is not a year to stay home. Speaking of events, Romania has prepared for this summer an entire list of one of the most diverse, beautiful and full of energy festivals. From photography, through Photo Romania 2015, at Cluj, to the only outdoor festival at Iasi, the well known Enescu’s classical festival and many important artists that will fill up the stages of our big cities, we pass through the most important titles, starting from May to September.
May brings not only the summer air in the atmosphere, but also wonderful music events and beyond. The acclaimed EuropaFest will return to the scene of our capital, between May 8 to 23, with over 300 artists in an anniversary edition of the festival that is dedicated to jazz, blues, pop and classical music lovers. In parallel, Cluj gathers photos of a prestigious competition, organized annually by the World Press Organization. The exhibition is on tour until March 2016 and includes photographs of 80 photographers, winners from as many different countries. That can be admired during Romania Photo Festival 2015 15 – 24 May, into the European Youth Capital of this year. The festival encourages public as well as many Romanian and foreign artists to participate in exhibitions, specialized workshops, concerts and photo conferences.
Moldova region is not to be outdone and proposes Hangariada – the only outdoor festival in Romania, which gathers between 15-17 May in Iaşi, on the airfield “Alexandru Matei” flight and nonconformity enthusiasts. Numerous aviation activities, parachute jumps, concerts and theater performances will be held during the 3 days of the festival
June begins with movie and theater in Cluj with the Internationa Theater and Film Festival (TIFF), more theater performances in Sibiu (FITS – Sibiu International Theatre Festival – 12 to 21 June) and ends with an electrifying concert on the Banffy Castle domain in Cluj, Electric Castle from 25 to 28 June. Meanwhile, Blaj surprises us with the remarkable scandinavian presence – Sunrise Avenue, on the scene of the third edition of Blaj aLive. The festival will take place on 5 and 6 June and brings along the Liberty Plain, the incendiary presence of pop rock, as well as many Romanian bands. Back to the capital, it will resound for 4 days in a row, both under the violin accords of Andre Rieu, as well as under the rock rhythms of the bands that will perform at Metalhead Meeting, from 11 to 14 June.
Because July is all about the holiday, it brings us to more peaceful lands, in places where we can enjoy the sunshine and the relaxing holiday. A place like this is Padina Fest, which come to the sixth edition, from July 23 to 26. The best thing about this event, is its very special location, in Bucegi Mountains, where the natural environment helps you to recharge your battery. However, if you feel closer to history, and you want to explore the atmosphere of medieval times, than the Sighisoara Medieval Festival is waiting for you between 24-26 July, with a unique program. The star of the month, drive us back to Cluj, on July 30, where the biggest secret was revealed: Untold Festival gets on its stage the Avicii band, but also the singer Patrice, John Newman, David Guetta and many others.
The youth energy from their capital, will be felt in the 4-day festival, which introduces us forward to the hottest month – August, and its Summer Well rhythms. This year’s edition will be once again held in the Palace Stirbei domain, between 8-9 August. Many music mix vibes will be felt in the sand of Mamaia beach, at Sunwaves, from 15 to 17 August.
August – September
The end of the summer and also of August, is marked by the magnificent “George Enescu” International Festival. This festival brings in Bucharest, every 2 years, the greatest orchestras of the world, and in 2015, for the 2500 artists and 500 Romanian artists’ performances, tickets were sold-out from the first 10 minutes. Even so, three weeks of this event will draw a festive air in the capital, through outdoor representations, but also for the big number of tourists that will promenade on the streets.
